Louisville, Kentucky

Louisville is known for baseball bats, beautiful magnolia trees, the Kentucky Derby, and for being the hometown of Muhammad Ali. Its name pays homage to French King Louis XVI, who assisted the colonists during the American Revolution. Louisville is also the birthplace of several original dishes. Henry Bain sauce, named after its inventor, the head waiter at Louisville's Pendennis Club, is a sweet, tangy, spicy concoction best served with wild game or beef tenderloin. The Hot Brown sandwich was created by the chef of Louisville’s Brown Hotel. It’s an open-faced sandwich topped with turkey, tomato, bacon, and cheese sauce, and then broiled until the cheese sauce turns golden brown. Besides fast horses, the Kentucky Derby is also renowned for popularizing the refreshing mint julep cocktail (made with Kentucky bourbon and fresh mint leaves).

Eggnog Cookies I

Reviewed on Dec. 3, 2008 by Carolina Chick
Perfect cookies! I subbed brown sugar for white as someone has noted. It did take the full 20 min at 300 to bake. So soft and very tasty (not bland)! These cookies are so easy. Great way to use up the end of the eggnog. They will be a regular during the holidays with our family.

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies III

Reviewed on Dec. 1, 2008 by J. Marsh
Fantastic! I didn't have enough chocolate chips when I made these, so I mixed chocolate chips with butterscotch chips - a wonderful combo as it turned out. Will definitely make again!
